Modest swimwear can seem like an oxymoron, can’t it? The vast majority of swimwear, even that labeled as modest, is pretty tight and revealing.
I used to not know what to do about swimwear while also sticking to my conservative convictions about modesty and clothing. From the time I started to really care about modesty, I knew that I wasn’t comfortable wearing something for swimwear that I also couldn’t walk down the street wearing, as well.
Maybe you haven’t been sure how to handle modesty and swimwear, either?
I once decided to sew myself a swim skirt made from long swim trunks. I picked a red and white Hawaiian flower pattern, and they worked well enough. But the skirt tended to float up in the water and was super clingy as soon as I got out.
Later I heard about these swim dresses that were made from the same material that swimsuits are. They fit modestly, come with leggings, dry quickly, and aren’t extremely clingy. I eyed them for a few years, wondering if they’d be a better solution than my homemade swim skirt.
Then a friend recently told me about Meant To Be Modest, a small company that makes quality, handmade swim dresses. I was simply delighted to have the opportunity to try one of these swim dresses myself, and I have not been disappointed!
Meant To Be Modest offers three different styles of swim dresses, along with girl’s suits, maternity and nursing suits, and suit separates.
I like all three styles, but opted for Style #3 since it doesn’t have a waist seam and offers a little more give there. With Baby #6 growing through the summer, my waist will certainly be expanding a bit!
My daughter loved Style #2 with the coordinating waist tie, so I recently ordered that one for her. She’s anxiously awaiting it’s arrival.
I really like that all of the suits from Meant To Be Modest are custom made according to your measurements and preferences. (If you need a suit in a hurry, there’s also a nice selection of premade suits to choose from.)
For me, I wanted the skirt to be about between my knees and my ankles, and I knew I needed that extra give in the belly area of my suit.
I let Julie from Meant To Be Modest know how I wanted the suit to fit and gave her the length for the skirt. She took care of the rest, and it turned out so well. It fits me perfectly and comes to just the right length for me.
Every swim dress comes with coordinating leggings which helps keep modesty in check while swimming or playing in the water. They are made of the same swimwear lycra material that the dress is, so they don’t feel heavy, restrictive, or bulky at all.
The top of the swim dress is also fully lined, which I appreciate since the print I chose is on a light colored background.
The hems are all straight and professionally finished. There wasn’t a loose thread to be seen, and the workmanship in my swim dress is really admirable! It feels durable and high-quality. I expect it to last me many summers.
That’s a candid action shot of me trying to gently get a water spider off my leg. He was little, so I didn’t want to squish him. I was kind of in his territory, right?
I really love my Meant To Be Modest swim dress. My husband is very pleased with it and my girls admire it, too!
I can’t wait to put it to lots of great use this summer. I love that I’ll be able to enjoy time in and around the water with my children while still feeling comfortably covered.
