The Skirt Outlet is a fantastic place to find stylish, modest clothing for women and girls, including long skirts, dresses, and modest tops.
I’d had a long couple of weeks with very little time to myself, so a couple of Mondays ago, I headed to Target for some blessed solitude. I also needed clothes.
These beautiful tops greeted me as I meandered through the racks. I filled up my cart with anything that I thought might fit me and headed to the dressing rooms, hopeful that a handful would look as nice on me as they looked on the racks.
I went in with around 15 pieces of clothing. I walked out of the fitting room with one shirt. One. That’s a pretty lousy batting average.
If modesty is really important to you when choosing clothes, you can likely relate. It can be so difficult to find things that fit well when most items are made to be really tight, clingy, or low-cut.
Shopping experiences like that make me so thankful for internet access and online stores that value modesty. I recently tried a top and skirt from The Skirt Outlet, and instead of ending up disappointed, I ended up with two modest and stylish pieces of clothing.
A Simple Gray Sweater
There’s something about gray clothing that I love. I really gravitate to the neutral color, but that means I often make efforts to not buy something in gray.
If I didn’t, I’d likely default to everything gray.
When I saw this modest gray sweater, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to try it out. It was gray, which I loved, but then again, I feared I needed to go with color. I was won over by promises of a true-to-size fit and high neckline, though. Not needing to layer my shirts? Yes, please!
After wearing it once, I was delighted I gave this sweater a chance. It’s the perfect wardrobe staple.
It’s light enough that it can be worn during spring and summer, but it could also be a warm layering piece for the winter. I could actually choose my real size instead of ordering 3 sizes higher for a modest fit. And the neckline? It’s perfect! Not so high that it’s reminiscent of a choke hold, but stays perfectly in place when I bend over to do motherhood.
It fits well without being tight or boxy and the material is really soft and comfy. The shoulder buttons give it a little extra style without taking away from it’s go-with-anything appeal. I can dress it up or make it more casual depending on what else I wear.
This sweater is definitely a winner!
Along with gray, I have a thing for stripes. I’m guilty of overdosing my wardrobe on stripes, so I’ve backed off in recent years. But this Jayde calf-length skirt makes stripes so extra fun that I knew it needed a home in my closet!
I love the alternating stripe pattern of this skirt. The cut gives this skirt a sweet little swirl when you walk, and the striped pattern accentuates it nicely. It’s both fun and casual, yet classy and chic.
And momma friends, let me tell you about the fabric and the waist band! It has one of those comfy and forgiving fold-over waistbands that just gently hugs your waist. It’s also split on one side, so if you wear this with your top tucked in, the waist band actually adds a cute touch of style.
The fabric is so soft and stretchy, but not thin and clingy. I actually think it’s the most comfortable skirt I own!
There’s one thing to note about the fabric, though. Part of what makes it so soft is a really loose knit weave, but that loose weave requires a bit of care when washing and wearing. My skirt got snagged the first day I wore it from my necklace and later from something my baby was holding. I still love it, but I’m definitely more careful now when I wear it!
This is a skirt you want to wear just for lounging around the house because of how comfortable it is, but it looks great enough to wear to church. I wore it to a recent conference and it was perfect! Even after an all-day event, I was comfy as could be.
